Creating a Universally Comfortable Pillow for Every Sleeper

Before Casper disrupted the mattress industry in 2014, sleep companies had a rather mundane approach to sleep. Casper introduced a single, incredibly comfortable model that sleeps cool and is perfect for everyone, eliminating the need for infinite models with confusing features and showrooms. The company's mission to improve sleep for everyone led to the design of a single pillow that would impress all sleepers.

The Casper Pillow stands out due to its unique dual-layer design. The company's engineering team discovered that most people sleep with a combination of soft and firm pillows for ultimate comfort. Casper's pillow eliminates the need for confusing combinations, featuring an inner core with shorter fibers for springiness in any position, and an outer layer with longer fibers for a cushy, luxurious feeling at any angle.

The pillow is available in standard and king sizes, made entirely of cotton cover, with a polyester fabric lining and microfiber fill. The project, which started in May 2014 and finished in November 2015, was designed and assembled in the USA with components from China and Korea.

The design process involved in-home research, elaborate prototyping, and real-world A/B testing. The objective was to create a perfect pillow for all. The team created custom prototypes by combining the better components from multiple models into unique combinations. After discovering a hand-filled pillow differs greatly from a machine-filled pillow, homemade prototypes were sent to members of Casper Labs, the company's research division with over 15,000 members.

Despite the challenges of catering to different sleep methods and navigating through countless gimmicky models, Casper managed to create a universally comfortable pillow. This design was awarded Silver in A' Furniture Accessories, Hardware and Materials Design Award in 2017, a testament to its outstanding expertise and innovation.
